Echelon Cares is a non-profit division of Echelon Custom Homes. It is an up and coming program that plans to give back to the community of coastal Sussex by teaming up with local businesses and residents of the beach area. Echelon Cares will reach out to public and private schools, programs for children, camps and families in need.
The Echelon Cares approach is to encourage anyone and everyone in the community to volunteer in some way. There are many opportunities to build, paint, landscape, donate materials and more.
Join us today to make our community a better place.
Lewes Canalfront Park Playground
The Lewes Canalfront Park project began in 1999 when citizens of Lewes joined together to raise funds to build a beautiful canalfront park on historical property that lies along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Ten years later, that dream has become a reality with the recent opening of the park.
Echelon and the Schell family have played a vital role in the park since its conception, from monetary donations to volunteerism and ending with Echelon and the entire Schell Brothers and Ocean Atlantic family coming together to construct the final portion of the park, with Chris and Preston Schell both hammering nails in the summer heat during the final days of construction.
The Safecracker Event
We encounter some interesting things when we do renovation projects, and one of our most extraordinary finds was a dusty fire safe that hadn’t been opened for years. After receiving the homeowner’s buy-in, Renew together with Echelon decided to turn this mysterious treasure into an opportunity to host a party and raise money for local charities. Although, in the end the safe was empty, over 80 people shared in the fun, and we raised $4000.00 for two local charities: Meals on Wheels and Read Aloud Delaware.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
On August 31, 2011, together with thousands of volunteers from the community, we moved that bus for the Dunning family!
Our team at Schell Brothers is proud to have been selected as the builder for such an important endeavor. The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project gave us an opportunity to help a deserving family right here in our county and that fits perfectly with our company culture and mission. There’s no doubt it was a lot of work, but definitely rewarding for all of us and it was an experience we’ll never forget.
The Sussex Consortium is a public school, special education program operated in the Cape Henlopen School District and was created to meet the special needs of students with moderate to severe disabilities in Sussex County. Schell Brothers & Echelon Custom Homes partnered with the Sussex Consortium in April of 2008 for a complete makeover of the school’s functional program apartment that is used to teach special education students everyday life skills, such as cooking, washing dishes, washing and drying clothes, and personal hygiene.
Bras for a Cause
On June 9, 2010, the Echelon Custom Homes team joined forces with hundreds of others in the surrounding area to support cancer research for the residents of Sussex County. A bevy of Echelon & Schell Brothers guys – including Chris Schell himself – donned theme-oriented bras and modeled them for the crowd gathered at Aqua in Rehoboth Beach.
Thousands of dollars were raised for the worthy cause, and the fun-spirited activities also went a long way to raising awareness in support of cancer research in coastal Delaware. Creativity was the name of the game, with decorative bras that included sparkling sequins, racy animal prints, and Hawaiian leis. Bras for a Cause is another great example of the investment made by county residents in supporting worthwhile organizations. The Sussex County community is fortunate to be served by caring medical professionals and top quality facilities that provide preventative screenings and personalized health care throughout the area.
Delivering Holiday Cheer
Every year during the holiday season Echelon Custom Homes partners up with local charities to help create Christmas for children from low income families by supplying food, toys and clothing.
In 2009 Echelon sponsored three special single mother families and helped them provide their children with all of the items from their wish lists as well as food and clothing items.
